15. Nagoya to Yaizu - 30 May 2004
After estimating time of day and fuel level from last flight, I set out on a compass heading for Yaizu until I acquired the NDB. This took me over mountains of a sort which I have seen before. As I entered the coastal plain, I began my descent and used the NDB to line up with the runway. I joined the traffic pattern on the downwind leg and from an angle, as recommended in the basic flight handbooks. The last minute or so was quite rocky, and not because of wind. Puzzled. The large cone-shaped volcano which came into view while I was flying west turns out to have been Mt. Fuji. I wondered about this, but didn't think I was close enough to Tokyo yet. Looking at the map after landing, though, there's no question.
